This happened to me....

Let me tell you something... dont just start cutting crap outta your car.... I know it may be a simple air sealing anti vibrating tape.. .BUT what happens when it stars to vibrate because that tape is missing???

I removed my vent (easy as pie) peeled the tape a little. Slid it back.. pressed it down tights, and pushed the vent back in...

Fixed.. no more poking out!

Wow! And this is the quality workmanship - especially with regards to interiors - that Audi is known for? What a bunch of BS! I hope my B7 doesn't do this anytime soon, or it'll be the last Audi I EVER get! [:@]

DUDE...I pulled my vent out yesterday to ghetto-rig a boost-guage pod (which went pretty well, pics once I connect it to the engine) and I discovered that there are two strips of HOCKEY TAPE (friction tape) on the top and bottom of the center vent. That is what you see coming out. I have no idea what these two strips accomplish, since I have been driving around without the center vent cluster in the hole for a day now. My guess would have been sound deadening or some way to insulate the airflow so it would flow only through the vents.

But yeah, it's hockey tape. Pull the vent out and re-tape that sucker, or just pull the strips off or something. Really weird that other people's cars have this. I figured it was some neurosis of the previous owner.

EDIT: I replied without really reading the other posts on this thread...Brrman has it covered. Sorry.

had about 1/8th of an inch and stuffed it back in. I haven't noticed if the car vomited it back up again, but I now I really want to check.
