Right now I have highly modified (over $12k in mods during last year, nit including labour cu I am mechanic) 60k miles 95' Pontiac Trans am (6 speed, 400RWHP) with stage 4 clutch all engine/dyno tuning suspension/chassis mods you can imagine. It runs high 11 sec 1/4 mile, and can out handle stock Z06 or STI/EVO at the track.
The car is perfect, reliability is excellent, good gass mileage (over 25 on teh highway), but is just too harsh for me. I used to drive Cadillac BMW 3 series, and after a year with my Trans AM I really I miss the comfort and luxury.

Anyway I figured out that I will sell my car and get my self Audi A4 (great compromise between performance and luxury). It will be 1999-2001 A4 5 speed, 1.8t . How much $$ I will have to invest in it to run 12sec 1/4 times an handle liek a champ in the track. I know a guy that owns 1998 Audi a4 with bigger turbo, full exhaust, custom dyno tuning, injectors, fuel pump, stage 3 clutch and he claims that his car has almost 300HP (280 something to be precise) and he runs 12.7 in the 1.4 mile. He told me he spend less than 5k on all the mods (not including labour). Is that possible to gat reliable 300HP and still has comfortable Audi A4 for around $5k in mods???

t3/t4 can put out 300WHP + not sure about under 5k ask TomRitt... he may chime in.

Since you seem mechanically inclined, you may be able to fabricate your own manifold/ dump tubes....

anyway.. t3/t4 turbo is pretty cheap (relatively) and can put out good HP at 10-15 PSI. You may WANT to build the motor.. but thats up to you.. the AEB engines , which is what yours sounds like, can take a good deal of HP. The rods are the only thing that are going to be a problem.... unless you dont tune it right..

5K is going to be pretty hard to stay under to go along with the turbo kit yuou will also want a exhaust a FMIC and a strong clutch to get into the 12's

I have a mid 11sec 03 Cobra that is going bye bye this weekend and i am looking at a 99 A4 AWD. I know you have to have atleast a mid 12 sec ride to hang with most cars now adays....

a 12 second street car is pretty fast...

If by "hang" you mean run with people at the strip then yes.

What you need is a Carerra 996 GT3

 

how much are you willing to dump on the a4 cash wise?

 

Make sure you get a 99 model or 99.5 model. You will have a much easier time tuning it. After 99.5 Audi went to Drive By Wire...all kinds of tuning problems. I have an '01 and I'm still having problems getting a K04 kit to run like it should.

You are going to need to some tuning help to get into the 12's. The commercial chips ain't gonna get you there.

I would skip the T3/T4 and go with a GT28RS or GT2871. They cost more but the turbo is what will be making your power.

Your car is also going to have to go on a diet...so if you want luxury and nice looks inside, forget it.

In other words you're going to have to do a lot of work.

AWE's RS4 K04, S4 conversion kit only runs 12.4 seconds.

Making 300HP is no problem. The PES kit will get you real close. Hell TomRitt's car is close to 400HP but he has spent over $5k on all his trials and tribulations.

Your largest ticket item after the turbo and intercooler will probably be tuning.

Skip the T3/4????? Do you know how big that turbo is?

TomRitt (his name gets brought up too much) runs a T3/4 now as well... its a larger turbo.. larger turbo = denser air = more HP less PSI

the PES kit will get you to what? 260 WHP? same w/ the APR stage 3+ kit....

As I said before... 99 A4 = t3/4 turbo for a budget minded , mechanically inclinded, person

 

Great info, thank you. I am looking at a 99 A4 1.8t AWD version which is bone stock. I have been a ford/chevy for awhile and am ready for something different. Alot of my friends have mid 12 sec SRT-4's and almost went that route as well, but I just love the looks the the Audi's.

yes a t3/t4 setup will produce alot more power than a gt2871rs there is a guy that runs elevens with a gt35r full race setup standalone did the dbw to dbc conversion was runin 11's he hasnt ran it since the custom tune on the standalone. he was pullin 11s in custom software.

if u want a 12's car go t3/t4 forged internals full exhaust fmic stage 3-4 clutch and 30 psi depends on how big u go
