^^Yes I think you are right, I didnt think about the height, Now honestly I'm not sure what will rub with a 17" wheel and what wont rub. Forget my earlier advice, I'd look around for a similar set-up
Ack. Too late for that, now! lol, I have the 235/45/17's on the wheels... the wheels aren't on the car yet though, now the suspense is killing me! I just spent over 800 on these tires, if they don't work, I'm going to walk out into traffic... or something along those lines.

On a side note, the wheel place damaged one of my wheels... so its getting refinished over the next week, hopefully.

As for the other stuff, yeah, these are 17x8 wheels... 235/45/17 is what comes stock on the b6 with sport... prolly what comes stock on a b5 with the RS4 wheels, for 2001 sports...

I just checked tirerack... and tom, i'm assuming you run 235/40/18's? They have an overall diameter of 25.4"... 235/45/17's have an overall diameter of 25.3"... so I've got you beat by a tenth of an inch, BUT, I dont have the wide wheels, that sort of stretch the sidewalls... HRMMmm.... I also won't go nearly as low as you. I might be good... right? Back me up on this one! lol

here are the tires:

EDIT: I scored those FK coilovers... apparently they are the konigsports or whatever they are called, with damping adjustment... I just have to pay for, and pick them up this thursday or friday. Pretty stoked. How hard are they to install? The driverside rear looks as though some of the trunk lining crap is gonna have to come off, the right rear looks easy enough. The fronts should be cake, right?

Any advice on setting them up, when I get them?

Ahh very nice, sorry about that I didnt even think about what kinda stretch that 45 would make it. I think it should still fit under the stock fender, I wouldnt worry at all about the front, just roll them, but the rear may rub a lil on very hard bumps. You can fix that with the coilovers though.

what are your sizes and offsets?

thats the look im trying to go for, nice 5 spoke design, with an offset in the back that makes it look absoutly insanely sweet...

cheers to u man, those are truly awsome

btw, if i were to go all out on tires, i would have gone with yokohama advan neova's, there expenisive as hell, but the most sticky on the market. for a cheaper tire, although, i think im gonna go with falkin azenas.. those r pretty sweet

The wheels are 17x8's, the fronts are a 32mm offset, the rears are a 28 mm offset, fronts have a 1" lip, rears have a 2.5" lip.

As for the tires... I dunno, I will just have to wait and see if they fit. I cant see them not fitting... 235/45/17's are what come stock on the 5 spoke 17's from 2002+ a4's... I'm sure people have put those wheel/tires on our b5's before. The tires I bought were my first choice... I had tossed around the idea of getting the GS-D3's... but I don't know how they could have improved on the SZ50EP's that I have. I've had these tires before, and they are indescribably good. They also have a treadwear rating of 340, so although they are an expensive tire (list for around 500 CDN a corner), they will last a long time (i'm hoping for around 50 - 60K miles out of them)

Now, I may be retarded... but what is that bar that starts above our tire, and sort of bends and goes behind our tire? Are those the swaybars? I havent paid much attention to suspension in the past (actually havent paid ANY attention). My golf was lowered with bilsteins and eibachs though, but it came that way when I bought it, so it wasn't exactly a learning experience.

But yeah, anybody with coilovers... any advice on setting them up? Am I going to be taking my wheels on and off every 15 minutes for a day or what? And these have damping adjustment, but the shocks need to be OFF The car... that seems insanely stupid to me...

Yup wheels will need tom come off. Not sure the name of those susp pieces u are talking about but I have about 1mm clearance on those with my 235's. The move with the wheel so as long as its not touch when u put the wheel on, it will have the same clearance when u hit a bump.

Yeah, I figured they move with the wheel... I am getting really nervous now.. if you have 1mm of clearance... haha, my overall diameter is a tenth less than yours, if you run 235/40/18... but I dont know about my width, since yours are stretched and ****. ARGH. The suspense is killin me.

Got the wheels refinished, well, the lips high polished anyways... they used to be polished with a clearcoat, but they looked like ***... apparently it's impossible to effectively clear a high polished surface. So, no clearcoat! They are shiny as all hell now... thank god for the painted centers. I think they'll look good though. Feel free to flame, if you're feeling they are too bling. I dig 'em though.

If only they were on my car... someday soon... maybe...

3 hundie :P

The centers (spokes) didn't get touched though... they are in pretty good shape, cept for one of them... which has a little pock mark. I'll be touching it up. Next time I need tires, I'll refinish the whole wheel. I do not see myself getting tired of the wheel design, I love them... might someday feel OK painting the centers something darker... like lighter than gunmetal, like a medium gray -- or not even... just a darker silver.
