Default Wheel Question..

I picked up my brand new 2006 A4 Quattro with S-Line Package a week ago. I love the car. My question is I'm getting new shoes for it and I was wondering if its ok to go staggered. The shop I'm dealing with said I should go 19x8.5 in the front and 9.5 in the rear. Now I always thought you should go all the same size on a AWD car. Am I wrong in thinking this? Please help with any info.

Yes staggered is not good for the quattro system. I know people run staggered wheels, but I would'nt.

la la la, I am a broken record.

Staggered doesnt matter if you have the same (or really close) overall tire diamter. Quattro is all mechanical -- keeps all 4 wheels spinning at the same speed... if you have different tire diamters, then you will have different rotation speeds!

If a 235/40/19 just happens to have the same overal diamter as a 255/35/19, then you are A okay to run with it!

Check tire rack for tire diamters.

Now, that being said... running staggered isn't all great... you cant rotate your tires, at all... unless you get them taken off the rim (or use a non directional tire... good luck finding one you will be happy with on 19s)... and a staggered setup will increase understeer... as it will be even harder to get the *** end to break loose. Not a big deal if you drive rather normally.

Welcome though! Sounds like a slick car!

Thanks for the info guys.

Headshok, that's exactly what he said. Long as the diameter of the wheels are the same then its all good.

I hope to learn alot more about the car soon. Pictures will come soon as I get the wheels.

I wouldn't do it strickly for the understeer factor, your car already has it and this will just agervate it. But good luck, we need pics and welcome to the forum.

OH yes I know, I was mentioning the understeer thing as a NEGATIVE to going staggered... The only real positive is bad *** looks

My wheels LOOK staggered, because of the offset... but I run 235/45/17's all around

Great info! I have been contemplating on purchasing a set of 19's staggered and thought this might pose a problem. I want to run 19x8.5 up front and 19x9.5 rear. 235 or 245/35/19 rubber.
