The intake manifold has 2 vac lines. One is indeed under the intake manifold next to the throttle body and it does have 2 lines connecting to it.

So, the rear vac line from the manifold isn't an issue...the front one is what perplexes me. According to this diagraphm...it is supposed to run to something under the manifold directly, but I have a valve with the screw plugging it...I'm thinking that I can take out the valve and run the (2) vac lines into each other without any issues. See my highlighted diagrahm below! Any ideas.

I really need to get access to another B5 1.8t to compare, but that hasn't happened just yet.

It is starting to make more sense that the valve was put there in order to install a boost gauge...but the previous owner was too much off an *** to fix it completely when it was removed. I'm going to connect the 2 vac lines tonight and remove the valve entirely...and see what happens.

Mine too. Its supposed to be that way. The vac system in a 2000 is crazy compared to to a 97-99.5 believe it or not. More check valves, more small elbow fittings and vac lines can be a pita to replace.

kinf od confusing but from the corner nipple on your intake manifold the small vacuum line goes to the diverter valve near the turbo. this valve is round has two hoses that plug into it and the small vacuum hose in question which plugs into the round part of the diverter valve. the rest is hard to tell from the pictures.
