Will 18" rims with the B6 A4 stock suspension look crap?
I've been trying to decide between an 18" and 17" upgrade and I think I'm finally convinced that 18" is the way to go instead of 17" (even though I live in Boston and 18"s are more expensive). But I heard that 18"s with the stock B6 A4 (mine is a 2005 1.8TQM) look crap. I got this from someone at the Bostonaudi forums:
I can't do anything to my car suspension-wise for at least a year and a half as I don't want my warranty getting voided. I would rather not switch to 18"s if it's going to look like rubbish (in addition to having a harsher ride). After all, the whole point of going to 18"s for me is cosmetic - if it's going to look **** I may as well go 17"s (cheaper and smoother ride). So what would be the point of paying more to a ) get a harsher ride; b ) add more weight to the car; and c ) still end up with it looking like ****?
I'm currently riding on the stock 16"s.

Comments? Anyone have pics of a B6 with 18"s and stock suspension?
Nota bene: Visually larger wheels with smaller tire sidewalls seem to accentuate whatever gap exists between the tire and wheel well opening making a given car look like it is sitting higher than it would with a smaller wheel and larger sidewall. The stock (non-sport) A4 suspension looks pretty odd when 18" wheels are added. The sport suspension is better visually but many end up going with something even lower - primarily for the look.

I have 18's on my b6 a4 and im happy. granted it could be lower (and will be eventually) its also the sport edition. i would go 18's personally, but to each his own. you might have to just mob it 4x4 style for awhile. heres a pic of my b6 on stock suspension with 18's. not a very good pic, but im sure you could find plenty of pics on the web of b6's with 18's on stock suspension.
That doesn't look that bad....it could be better, but it is hardly 4x4. My b5 on the other hand....with 18 inch rs4 reps and stock suspension was horrid. I could seriousely fit my whole hand in the gap...well 4 fingers in the gap straight up and down.
My B6 A4 has 18's on it and it's a Sport Package car, and it ride very nicely. It's a little stiffer than when it had the 17" rims on it, but far from uncomfortable. My S4 rides stiffer.
I love boston i would deff rock the 18's you dont have to get really low profile tires you still get 245/18/40 and get good travel and bump resistance, as long as you have a set of winter tires IE stock tires you should be fine.
