Windows rolled down by themselves during night (during rainstorm!)
I have a 2001 A4 2.8 Last night there was a rain storm, and we went out to the car this morning to find that all 4 windows were all the way down. We came back around 11 last night and left the car locked and all windows were up.
The car has a remote starter that was installed by the Audi dealer, but has been in the car since we got it, although we recall this incident may have happened once before (not during a rainstorm) so we didnt think it was a big deal. The car was locked last night using the remote starter control.
Heres what im wondering. I read in the manual that the windows can be rolled up and down by inserting the key into the drivers side door and holding the key turned in either the lock or unlock direction to unroll and roll the windows, respectively. So somehow the locking mechanism is tied to the power windows. I noticed that the Factory Audi remote control has a different behavior for locking and unlocking than using the remote start control. The audi remote causes the small orange lights in front of the front doors to flash, where as the remote starter does not. Im wondering if the remote starter is tied into the wrong power lock control, and perhaps triggered the windows to roll down.
Anyone have any ideas? The car was filled with water. We obviously dont want this to happen again, especially because it is kept in a parking lot where thefts have been known to occur, 4 open audi windows are quite inviting.
Thanks,
Dave

don't know bout yours, but my remote also has the ability to roll the windows down, and I have on ocasion been leaning aginst it and pushing the button and the windows went down just as it was told to do. Other than that I had a chevy lumina that when the bat was low would get posesed and start all kinds of wierd stuff, windows, doorlocks, power antina, windshild wipers. but other than that I can't help. And sorry about the water bit, I've been there and it sucks big time.
If the car is programmed to roll down the windows with the remote, they can sometimes spontaneously open. Happens occasionally. The easiest way to prevent this is to use a VAG-com and disable this feature.
Yeah I tried to get the windows to roll down using both remotes.. I tried holding down the buttons for a couple seconds ( thought maybe it could be equivalent to holding the key turned while in the door ) but nothing happened. So I think this is not just the case of me accidently pressing a remote button while it was in my pocket, I think i would have noticed. And it was raining really hard when I got back last night, and not too bad in the morning, and there wasnt a real lot of water in the car, which makes me think it opened during the night when the rain slowed a bit.
Have the dealer look at it?

Should I just go and get a new bat and see what happens or does anyone have any other ideas?
