Hey all, noobie checkin' in...

So I bought a 2001 A4 a few months ago, and 2 weeks ago I blew out a tyre...efff! I'm on Dunlop SP Sport 8000, and a new one is gonna run me about $170. But anyways, that got me thinking about snow tyres and wheels for the winter (I live in upstate NY, so the snow is definitely an issue).

My buddy has a set of stock Acura RSX wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres with about 50 percent life left on them (i think they're 205/50/R16). These are all-seasons, but they'll definitely be a step up from my summer tyres when November rolls around. They're 5 lug wheels, he THINKS they're 112.5 mm spacing. He says I can get all 4 wheels and the tyres for $250.

My questions:
-Overall, is it a good idea to get a separate set of winter wheels?
-Anyone know off-hand if those Acura wheels will fit? I'm not sure about the spacing, I know the B5's are 112mm, right? Is 112.5 a legit measurement, or is my buddy wrong? Could I use a spacer?
-I'm thinking $250 for wheels and tyres isn't a bad deal...any comments?

I bought my A4 last september with All-seasons. I drove here in Montreal until about mid-December on them and never had a problem (plenty of snow here). Of course with snow tires my A4 was absolutely amazing in the snow.

I would say if you have summer tires, make the investment in winter tires. If you have all-seasons you are probably okay through winter as long as you take it easy.

 

the acura isnt 5x112 dude... It'll be 5x100 or like 5x114. something... I dont know acura's -- all I know is 5x112 is audi and mercedes -- and thats it.

If you blew out the 8000... do you have one on your spare? My spare had the same 8000 as the rest of the wheels... just start driving your spare, and replace the spare with your old wheel... with some used crap tire on it, for emergencies. -- provided you have a full sized spare, that matches your wheels, and has the 8000's... but who knows.
