Default Wiper Problem

I just got finished installing a new wiper motor in my 99.5 A4. now the wipers stop about 3" up to high when i turn them off. Also when I first turn them on they go down about 3"-4" before they go up. What could be the problem?

The "park" position on the motor is not set, you have to adjust this by taking all the crap off that you previously did when putting the motor in. When you get all of that stuff off (with the wiper blades off) look at the top of the motor, there should be a little gold nut, you have to loosen the nut enough so it won't move the levers. Activate the motor once so it does a full sweep, when its done tighten down the gold nut again, the motor should now be in "time" Put the wiper blades on real quick before putting the cowl and crap back on and make sure it works the way it is supposed to. If it doesn't repeat the process until you get it right.

ok, so do the wipers need to be where i want them when I tighten it back down? also when i replaced the motor i took the whole assembly out, it seemed easier then trying to finagle the motor out.

Correct, you tighten down the bolt where the motor stops, then position the wiper blades on the glass where you want them. If the wiper blades drop just a bit when they activate you need to try again, it can be a pain in the ***. All wiper blades drop about 1/2 inch when the motor is operated so if you get it that close don't worry about it.
