Default Wipers

Last winter i posted about my wipers getting stuck. If i don't wipe any snow of the windshield and they push against it, they will loosen the screw and become stuck. Because of the location i cant really torque the sh*t out of the nut. I noticed there is no washer on the bolt, could adding one help it? I ask this question again because i was told i had to replace the entire motor assembly. I don't see the sense in that because the weak point is the single bolt that connects the wipers to the motor. Any ideas how to keep this thing on lock down. OH.. and i always wipe the snow first but my buddy f'd it up again!

Yeah getting to the timing bolt on the wiper motor is a biotch. The stud on the motor is really short so if you thing you can get a lock washer in there it shouldn't hurt anything.
You could even try jb weld or something on the nut.

Can you think of a situation where i would need to take this bolt off again? I wouldn't want to glue it down if it would cause problems later. I will probably try that.

It really shouldn't come loose un-less its pushing on something it can't get out of the way...like compacted snow. If it comes loose more than once usually the gear is stripped, and the entire assembly needs to be replaced, thats why i would use a JB weld fix because its a last resort.

So it does need to be replaced... Yeah, this has happened about 5 times. I'm just guessing but this must be kind of a pain in the *** job?

No its not really hard per say, but it does take a quite a bit of time to do if you haven't taken apart the cowl before. There is only about two to three bolts holding the whole thing in but you have to get everything out of the way so it can come out. You might have to remove the top half of the ECM box and swing the ECM out of the way, remove the wiper blades, the upper cowl (snaps off) the pull that pile out of there.
Now if it were a new body A6.....................you might cry if i told you how to do that.

Lol. Sometimes i wish i was learning how to work on cars back in the day of american muscle cars with big engine bays. I think i'm going to try to lock this one down and be careful about the snow weight. Only potential problem is if this thing gives out while im on the road during a heavy storm.

i just replaced the wiper motor about a month ago. its really not a bad job at all. it took about 2 hours but thats only cause originally i thought the problem was in the wiper 'transmission' so i replaced that only to find out its the motor. it was like $60 from a junk yard a probably would have taken about 45 mins. if i did it right the first time. it was 100% worth the time out in the cold to have workin windshield wipers.
