Default Working under the car...

So, I used some jackstands to get under my 2000 A4, and let me just say, it's a total P.I.T.A. to work with like 12" of clearance! Taking off the splash guard and trying to snag the oil filter to change the oil is a kick in the chest! (not to mention that I have this nagging fear that the car will drop on my head!) What do the rest of you guys use to get under the ol' car to get some room to maneuver around once you're there?

I use ramps. It gives me enough room to get to the oil filter easily. You may already know this, but the lift points on the A4 are right behind the wheel wells and are indicated by diamond shaped indentations.

I removed my filter from the TOP of the engine bay the last time I did it.
Just remove the 3 screws holding in the coolant reservoir and move it aside.
very easy to get to the filter that way. non-DBW cars might not be able to do that
cuz the throttle body is larger.

I also use ramps to get under the car.

thanks, guys. Maybe I'll try to get at the oil filter from up top, then. And, I know no question is a dumb question (except maybe, this one!), but the oil drain plug is the one that's right at the bottom of the engine block, right smack in front of your face, once you take off the splash cover, right? thanks!

When using jack stands, you should always leave the hydraulic jack up and in position as a safety measure. Then just get to work.

I use a sheet of cardboard to help me slide around under the car.

I have an A4 and would like to put it on a lift. The problem is I don't where to put the lift pads so as to not damage anything. I called the local Audi dealer and believe it or not they wouldn't tell me where the safest place to locate the lift pads is.
I need your help. Thanks.
