Yeah, I went to start my car today and she didn't start. Turns over, I smell gas, and there is some smoke coming out of the exhaust and it doesn't smell all raw. It catches once every couple of seconds, but I'm not cranking it for more than 15 seconds so the starter doesn't overheat. Any ideas? I pulled my ECU and let it sit for 10 minutes, too.

Ran a TBA and it tries to catch, but still nothing.

 

Pulled the coil packs and plugs, all plugs are wet and show normal wear, no damage so I bought some new plugs but...

...there's supposed to be oil all over my #2 and #3 coil packs, where it meets with the plug, right? I've worked on cars for a while and I think I read somewhere that they aren't supposed to be soaked in oil...[:'(]

 

Valve cover gaskets need to be changed probably. If you clean it out it wont just pour back in regardless of how bad the gasket is, I dont think thats your problem. You didnt change anything from the last time you parked the car?

 

For someone with over 3,500 post should know to post fault codes by now.

 

Nope, drove like a champ on Friday, sat all day Saturday, went out today and nothing. However, I did find that plugs #2 and #3 did not have the little metal washer on them, so with my new ones I put them on. Did another TBA just for the hell of it, she turned over a couple of times and fired up. Ran a little rough for about 15 seconds then dropped to idle at 850ish. I'm going to let her warm up and I'll go for a cruise, and I suspect this may be the source of my mystery smell from the engine, too...

 

Sounds like it has a huge vaccum leak.

 

I agree, i got had the same symptoms at one time when i had a vac leak.

 

Ha, I didn't scan it, and it's running great now. New plugs ftw, and I'll be going to the guy who replaced my plugs before to give him hell for it. Dumbass...

 

I think that if I had a vac leak, replacing my plugs wouldn't have fixed it...
