which year should i get?
the three spoke wheel is a stand-alone option that started in 96...it's also included in the sport package....B5 A4s are hard to find in cali, and the ones that are available tend to be pretty expensive....you should consider taking a road trip to oregon/washington/arizona to get a better deal...non-drive-by-wire is better if you plan on doing major mods as it is more mod-friendly...the 99.5s didn't come with clear sidemarkers, just more modern looking ones (look at the link jest posted above)...the best improvement for the 99.5s were the one-piece headlights and lower foglights (together those upgrades can cost well over 500 bucks)...check craigslist, autotrader, and ebay, but like i said, they're hard to find in cali...
why do you love your 99.5? i am just trying to find what i should be looking for.
That website answers alot of questions. Thanks!
Ya Bent guy i think i am going to take some friends and go on a little road trip if i find one out of the state online.

all of the B5 A4s are very similar, other than the cosmetic changes that you see on that link, plus a couple that aren't included (outer door handles changed slightly, a few minor interior changes)...other than that, the 1.8T engine never really changed, except for dbw in 00 and the increased boost/variable valve timing in 01 (which is why the 01s have 20 more HP)...if you're looking at 2.8s, 96-97 were 12Vs with 172HP, in 98 they switched to a 30V 2.8L with 190HP...there are way more mods available for the 1.8Ts, but the 30V 2.8L has a supercharger available that will make it spank a 1.8 at lower speeds (~60mph-)..it's kinda pricey though at 5 grand plus install
Whoa! I've got a 99.5 apparently and didn't know. I'm really confused becuase when I went to APR's shop and had my chip installed they told me DBW was more accepting to larger mods. Who's right and why?
ya i am new to audi's and love them! at first i was looking at 2.8's b/c they are faster stock..but then i found that chipping a 1.8t was easy and would make it faster than the 2.8. is that true that just a chip will make it faster than a stock 2.8??
Does anyone know any Audi shops or tuners around the central valley like modesto or anything in California?

i've got an '01
my thoughts on the '01 are this....
01 got 20 x-tra HP... who doesn't want that....
01 is the last yr. of the B5 body.. generally the most reliable
01 got all the body/exterior upgrades everyone else tries to do (i.e. clear sidemarkers, 1-piece headlights, 2nd gen. taillights, etc.)
seems to be an unpopular decision at this point... but i say GET AN '01
