OK, I have the A5. When I picked it up the service dept said that they didn't have the front license plate bracket in stock so they ordered it.
Today I get a call that it's in so I go and it is the big clip on peice that goes over the european peice (I already have that part) the holes do not line up
with my state license plate.

So my question is how are you guys mounting your front plate? The service dpt is clueless, they even called part support and they said they don't know.

For your info the distance from center hole to center hole is 9 inches on the car bracket and the state plate is 71/2.

 

I picked up my A5 in Illinois about a month ago. I live in Indiana (no front plate) so I had to switch out the Illinois version. I got it from a large dealership in the Chicago area that had 4 cars on the lot. When I removed the dealership advertisement front plate I found they had used screws that tapped directly into the plastic to hold the plate because their plates did not line up with the holes. I am very pleased I could remove that piece and install a new non-license front section (with no holes in it). Sorry for the answer, maybe you can do better.

 

As this post is from a couple months agao, you've probably figured a solution by now . . .
I have the same issue with my A5. The dealer has no clue what to do about the front license plate. They claim Audi told them to drill holes into the bumper.
A friend suggested a licence plate bracket for a new Passat would work.
Can anyone confirm?

 

I ended up just drilling the front bumper.
After careful measuring.
