need help with tuned A5
About a month and a half ago I bought a 2010 A5 2.0T, 114K miles. After fighting for nearly a month to figure why I couldn't get the O2 sensor or the catalyst to register as ready for emissions testing, I found out it was running an APR stage 2 tune 93 octane for test pipes. It also has a IE intake, high flow cat, and IHI turbo,
There are only 2 APR installers here in the area and I took it to the one who actually returned my call. I took it to him to have it tuned down to stage 1 and get the car able to pass emissions. He told me he would put in an O2 spacer and sometimes he may need to change out the O2 sensor.
He calls me the say after I dropped it off and tells me that I have a bad rear main seal (pretty sure I do), a failed crankcase breather (the second mechanic I took it to old me its fine) and the timing chain needs replaced (second mechanic also told me this is fine and he doesn't mess with them unless there is a specific code that pops, usually about 150K). He tells me for all that, warranty transfer on the tune, and everything for emissions, it would run me $5300. Tells me he won't do the inspection unless I have the other repairs done. Im sure you know what I said.
I told him to just put it at stage 1 and put the spacer in.
when I drove it I got a p2187 system too lean at idle bank1. I disconnected the breather valve and no longer get that code but I now get p0240 catalyst below threshold bank 1 (OBD scanner marked this as permanent). No check engine light. all banks showing ready except catalyst.
Since the code change after undoing the breather valve, is that the culprit? Or is the O2 sensor bad since its involved in both cases?
How in the world do I get the catalyst bank to show as ready ( the owner of the shop told me he has a route mapped out that gets everything except the catalyst bank, but never told me how he gets that).
Will I pass emissions with all banks ready and p0420 permanent but no CEL?
Any help would be appreciated. I had no idea I wasn't buying a stock, street legal car other than the upgraded intake I saw when I popped the hood.
