Hello, The heater fan quit completely the other day. Removed glove compartment and got the fan out. Connected the fan to 12V and it spins freely. Checked the voltage at the connector to the fan and it varies between 5 - 9 volts depending what speed I select on console controler. The resistor's wire has insulation melted but OK besides that. Is there a way to test the resistor or we can safely say that the motor fan is kaput? The fan and the resistor are about $100 each and I would hate to replace both if I don't have to. '00 A6 Avant, 2.8L, no solar panel, just crossed 200K miles. Appreciate any help, Thanks

 

Fixed it, the resistor was the culprit. Got used one from eBay and it works.
