New owner here, greetings. This is a lovely machine (44k miles), but it seems thirsty. On a mostly highway trip, 60-80 mph, some city too, driving conservatively, I got barely 23 mpg according to the trip computer. I have not refilled to check for sure, but that's a bit thirstier than I expected. Sound within the norm?

Check your actual mileage using the milage traveled and the amount of gas used to fill the tank. The in dash number is just an estimate.

 

Ok, refilled the tank. Indicated gas mileage on the computer was 22.3. Actual mileage was 22.14. The distance was 186 miles, about 25 of which was city. A bit of the hwy was traffic jam. Still sounds pretty low doesn't it?

 

It does seem a litle low. At 40k there should have been a major maintainance performed. Plugs, filters and such. Was that done. If that was done check your fuel trims with a scan tool. That may indicate some sort of excessive fuel usage due to a problem. If fuel trims are ok, your only real rememdy is a driving style change.

 

I use the mileage average that builds up over time (not the instant readout) on an 03 2.7T and I get about 20.5
That's with a K & N air filter and Hyperboost diverters. Gonna change my oil and hope for improvement.
