Default 02 A6 3.0 P0491, P0492 Sec Air Pump Replacement

Audi 2002 A6 3.0 FWD

Secondary Air Injection System Insufficient flow Bank 1 (P0491)
Secondary Air Injection System Insufficient Flow Bank 2 (P0492)

Long time lurker first time poster. So my car as about 140K miles on it. Had these codes pop up and need to get them fixed to pass smog.

When the codes are clear it takes anywhere from 50 to 150 miles for the codes to pop again.

I glanced briefly at the lines to see if there was any leaks or breaks. Viably couldn't find any.
Then I checked the pump. I put a charge to it and couldn't get it working, so I'm assuming I will need to replace the pump.

Next thing I did was pull the hose from the pump and rusty looking water came out. I heard if that stuff gets into the pump it will kill it, what obviously happened. Also if I just replace the pump and the water continues to go in there then I could also ruin the pump again.

I want to get all the parts I need when I finally have my friend over to help take this thing apart. I was told there is a Combi (valve) (maybe also called EGR) that is most likely bad because of the water getting into the lines going to the pump.

I will also order a fuse because i'm assuming that's out too.

My question is what do I exactly order for these Combi Valves. When I look online I see one for the left and the right. I thought there was only one I need to order? This is also called the EGR valve everywhere online. Its a very expensive part so I dont want to order 2 if I don't have too. I don't see where there is 2 combi valves in the Engine.

I can get an aftermarket pump for around 110 bucks and I can by the 2 EGR valves used on ebay for about 35 bucks each for both sides.

My question is that do I need both sides for the water issue or just the passenger side. All info and jobs I find online in forums only mentions one combi (EGR) Valve.

Anyone that is experienced with these engines or who has worked on this job before would be much appreciated.

Thank you.
