Default Is '02 A6 a money pit?

I have a chance to purchase an '02 A6 2.7T Quattro with 91K miles for around $9K. I've never had an Audi, but kinda want to give it a go, as it looks like a hell of a great car. I'd be using it mostly on the highway, but occasionally off on wet gravel road (I photograph severe weather).

The question I have is is this car going to be a money pit? I read a lot of anecdotal stories online about people needing to spend a lot of money on repair and maintenance just to keep these going after 100K miles. I asked my mechanic, and he seemed to think that the repair cost was on par with an 02 VW Passat AWD, which is the other car I'm considering. But I figured there were probably a lot of people in here who had experience with this car. I'm not made of money and will feel pretty stupid if I have to sink thousands a year into it just to keep it running.

I have an '04 a6 with 110k miles and I have only put money in to tire rotations and oil changes (knock on wood) But I have you by a couple years so I cant tell you exactly. I can tell you Audis are a great investment, and they will last you 250k+ if you are willing to put a few bucks in to keep them going. I am not made of money either but the repairs are few and far between so just keep an emergency fund going just in case and you should be alright. But in the end its up to you. VW and Audi are the same makers so I have actually found Audi parts in VW's. So either could be a good investment but I am biased towards Audis

$9k seems a little high
I'm pretty sure people are gonna tell u that with that mileage
U gonna need a timing belt n that alone could b around $800-$1500 depending on the shop or where u live. If one or two turbo goes bad that's a bigger hit. May need control arms soon. But I'll say maintance is not that bad but it is a little more than the Japanese cars.
Mine is the same model but is a 2000 and I have 168k on it.
I got it 3 years ago n so far this is what I spend on repairs! I spend $140 for 2 icm, $230 fuel pump, $70 oil sensor, $500 complte set of control arms(+labor), $66 oem spark plugs, $60 fuel relay n crank sensor(turn out I didn't need them), $100 cluster fix. I think that's pretty much it, of course u have the regular maintance stuff, oil +filter, air and cabin filters. I know I'm due for another timing belt job so at the shop where I'm taking it is $750+tax
Every car is different n some people treat them better than others so u never know for sure. One thing for sure.. U will love to drive these things!

thats not too bad of a deal. Im selling my 02 a6 with only 71k for 9500 OBO if any one is interested message me. Im located intexas. Clear title and all the goodies are there. Sports seats ectt.

As for the deal its good. The 2.ts overall is a great car. It just needs a bit more attention. Nothing major, Just compulsory oilo changes before 6000 with fully synthetic oil (best if used oil audi has approved) and the car must not be driven hard on cold starts until the oil temp has reached atleast 175.

Tha t price seems quite high for a 12 year old car. I tried selling my car for over a year 5 years ago and the highest offer I got was 10, it had under 90k miles, at that point I had just done timing belt, cam and valve cover gasket, water pump, brakes...I am glad I kept it now but I may have taken the offer for 10 if the guy had been standing in front of me with cash instead of trying his offer by email....I guess if you were buying it from a dealer for that price and you had a warranty....
