'04 A6 Problem
I've been searching the forum a bit for the info and haven't found anything yet, so I decided to ask the pros.
I'm trying to help the 'rents with their '04 A6 3.0 Tiptronic Quattro. Here's the problem... As the car is motion I can hear a dry sound that would almost seem like a bent rim or out of balance tire. However it doesn't seem to affect the steering or vibration you would normally feel in the steering wheel with a tire / wheel problem.
The sound almost seems like a drive line / axle sound. I hear it coming from the front of the car and it could be a little more from the passenger side. I plan on getting the car raised up to take a close listen, however I've never worked on an Audi before.
Is there any online repair manuals or pdfs for the '04 A6 3.0?
I'm assuming the front power-train assembly comes right out of the transmission and is out putted to the front axles? And the rear just comes straight out the back of the transmission?
Any pictures or info would be helpful. I know my way around cars pretty well and have rebuilt a few in my time, but like I said never an Audi.
On a side note: I think I'll be on the look out for a M/T A6 Avant in the future! I'm quite impressed by the AWD and the constant torque.
Thanks!
