'05 A6 Front Seats recline by themselves
I recently bought an '05 A6 3.2L AT w/Quattro. It has 82k miles and has been factory maintained, I checked at the dealership. My problem is that the front seats, passenger mostly, moves and reclines fully when the door is opened. It has trapped one of my boys in his booster seat in the back seat twice now. I noticed the trim on the drivers door around the seat memory pops loose. I suspect that the problem might be there. Has anyone else encountered this problem?
Well I am no expert on this topic but can share my experience only. I have an Audi 2002, A6, 2.4L, the passenger seat reclines automatically sometimes when someone is sitting in the seat, hasn't caused any serious issue but it has happened. I kind of thought that it is something to do with those " computer glitches that we have" with these new "intelligent" cars may be due to hot weather.
I am sorry, can't help you but thought would share something similar.

The memory seat is only for the driver sided seat. If I was you, i would remove the driver side door panel and check the connections. Also the passenger seat controls. The switches might be going bad. But first before all that, pull the fuses and the relays. check the pins for only type of electrical burns. What SW version does your car have?
There are a few different setups of the MMI system.
1)MMI Basic-[all the screens are red with a single disc player in the glovebox]
2)MMI BasicPlus-[the screen in the instrumental panel is red and a 6.5" colored
screen, with a single disc player and CD-rom Navi player next to it in the glovebox]
3)MMI High-[the screen in the instrumental panel is red and the other is a colored screen, 6 disc changer in the glovebox and a DVD navi in the trunk]
4)MMI 2G-[all color screens, 6 disc changer in the glovebox and a DVD navi in the trunk]
The MMI controls most of the components on the A6. In the past there where some issues and the Audi made software updates to fix the bugs the system had. Also to update the components. You could check the SW version via the MMI under CAR/Version. Most A6/C6 never got the updates, but if yours read 11.9.0 or below. You'll need an update. The latest that I know of is 46.1.0.
But first you'll have to figure out which MMI unit you have base on the list above.
1 & 2 will need a different disc to 3 & 4.
Updating will benefit you in the end if your want to install AMI(ipod,3.5mm, usb, mircomini, bluetooth:music)
But the main point here is the phantom play of the passenger seat. Check the seat controls, there must be a short or trim wire making contact some where in the door.
Hope it helps.
