05 a6 is running hot. caN you help?

05 a6 is running hot. caN you help?
I just got my first audi, 2005 a6 quatro with the v8. it is running hot when I touch the hood but the temperature Guage is showing the midway point and it feels hotter. any advice, suggestions or input? I appreciate it a lot
