Question 05 C6 A6 MMI Crashed - Some Questions

Turns out you can't actually search for the phrase "MMI" in these forums. It's apparently too short and any phrase I put in quotes with MMI wouldn't turn up anything useful..

So I managed to crash my MMI completely to the point where it would not turn off..

It all started when my phones Bluetooth would disconnect and simply stay in the green screen with "Please Wait..." on the screen. Turned off the BT on the phone and reset the MMI multiple times. This happens all the time and normally it would all eventually come back to life after two of three resets. This time though, after about 10-15 resets, still the same issue. Turned off the car, but for some reason the MMI simply would not turn off. Tried another reset or two. Started the car, stopped it. Held down the stop button, locking the steering wheel. Got out, hit the little lock button on the door. Still the MMI and the LCD would stay on. I ended up having to disconnect the battery in the trunk to get the damn thing to reset completely. And there it now sits in my driveway...

So, a couple of questions:
1. What the hell happened?
2. What did I mess up by just disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it?
3. Is there a better/more complete way to reset the MMI other and the three finger salute?
4. What's the fix for my constant Bluetooth crashes? Do later versions of the MMI firmware update the BT Stack on the car? I'm on some ancient version 11 and I understand the current version is in its 40s or 50.
