Default 18" wheels, what size tires?

Hey guys, what size tires are you running on your 18" wheels? I want to go wide, but don't want to rub on the turns. I would appreciate your replies on this one.

You can do 235/40R18 with no problems, anything bigger than that you might rubb on crap.

would you go 245/40/18 or 245/35/18? I was thinking 40 to give a bit more cushion between wheel and road. Thanks for your input.

i dont think that fenders is what the tires will rub on if theyre too wide. they rub on the inside parts of the fender wells, like suspension parts. run 235/40/18s and it wont rub

Don't forget that the answer to this question depends on two bits of info the original poster did NOT provide: body style (4.2 wide body or narrow body) and wheel offset. With the right offset, you can go as high as 255 on the 4.2. 235 is the max on the narrow bodies.

the offset is 35inch on the 18's. 2001 a6 4.2. Was not aware that they had a wide body and narrow body. When they do the math at Les Schwab they say that 245/40/18 works out to be the same as the 255/40/17's that are currently on there. So that's why I figured I could go with the 245's. I would love to go with 255/40/18's so that they fill out the well a bit more.
