Please forgive it this is not an intelligent post, questions & queries for help. I've been searching via Google & Bing for help w/no good answers. I purchased an A6 Quattro Wagon (Avant?) w/4x4 and w/a blown head gasket (Thought is was a DEAL too good to pass up for $1,600 -VIN# WAUJC84A1WNxxxxxx). Able to start & found water coming from exhaust & coolant in oil. I tried to locate Hayes or Chilton manuals for this model, none to be found. Purchased the Bentley A6 1998-2004. Helpful in some ways, but to my surprise it's not showing this car. Engine code is NOT listed in here! Only showing V6 5-valve motors and found this AFC code was in earlier A4 models but not in 1998? And not with any A6's. I've been able to take down to the head gaskets and truely found the blown head gasket, now wanting/ready to put back together w/the correct torque specs for this engine, which I can't find. So, can I ask for help locating either a manual, pdf or spec sheets? And how the heck did this engine get into this model? Is this a USA thing, special order?

Thank you Chefro for the info, this helps out on the cylinder heads. Can you tell me where I can find a manual of this engine? Should I be looking at A4's instead of the A6 models? I would really like to have a matching manual so I don't have to post every question that comes up. Thanks again.

 

well, I have the C4 manual, supposedly covering 1995-1997, but under "Avant 1995-1998" section does cover the 1998 AFC engine.
I don't know why your Bentley manual doesn't cover the 1998 AFC engine.
