1999 a6 for $800 worth fixing or for parts ?
hello, i have a chance to get a 1999 audi a6 in great shape for only $800. the thing is the owner ran over something and it smashed the oil pan and basically the engine is destroyed/locked up. Would this car be worth fixing the engine or could i get good money selling it for parts? are these parts on these cars worth good money ? thanks

to me thats more of a personal prefernce. how good a mechanic are you? are you sure the motor locked up? what made him think the motor locked up? these are questions you should ask your self. i'll give you an example, im good with hondas so i bought a 96 prelude some guy said was junk. just like your situation the motor was supposedly hydro locked well i changed the oil witha mix of cheap stuff and marvel mystery, i went to try to crank and at first it didn't want to but eventually it did start. i did a motor flush put some good synthetic in it, finished off the rest off the tune up and sold the car for 5 grand. i only bought this car for a hundred bucks cause the motor was supposedly hydro locked, these are things you got to think about before you purchase this car.

if its a 2.7T or 4.2L I say do it! if it has sport package do it.. the seats are a very nice upgrade to non-sport owners. and if it has rear power shades i will buy soem parts lol.
Same thing as Figgy, I brought a 1993 Honda Civic CX Hatch that the owner supposedly said it needs a motor. I found out the timming was off so as soon as the timing was on the car fired right up. i brought it for $300 sold it for $2800. It was a mint car no rust at all too which was hard to come buy i could of easily asked 4k for it but i sold it to a close friend the car had 35k miles on it...what a nice deal on that car. lol.
If the car was drivin for a long distance without oil then yes the motor is shot. does the car try to crank over? or frozen solid?

they ran over a curb and it busted the oil pan and the engine lost all of its oil. im a fairly good mechanic, but i dont know where i could find used audi parts around where i live. What is the sport package ? it has the black leather seats and woood grain and it has the automatic with the manaul shift option on it. i dont know a whole lot about audis so im just telling what i can see. It also has basically brand new fuzion tires on it.

I would buy it regardless. yes, there is a good chance it will need a motor. If you can find a used one for a decent price you will still hit a home run and have a nice car. If you cant get it running, the headlights themselves will sell for $200 bucks on ebay. You could quadruple your money if you part it through ebay. I have an ebay store where all I sell are used car parts and do well with them. Where are you located because if you dont buy it, I am very tempted too.
