Default 1999 Avant 2.8 worth it?

I'm new, sorry if I am in the wrong place or what not.

I am looking at a 1999 Avant, its a 2.8 with 160k miles. Automatic.

The body is MINT MINT MINT MINT. Better then my 2010 Ford Escape.

He is asking 1,500.
It Needs:
Sway bar links.
Brake pads and rotors.
Coolant hose and seal.
Battery.
Oil change.

Good or bad deal?

What coolant seal is he talking about? Brakes, swaybar links, oil change are negligible. I'd say also that if you're changing front brakes, step up to the A8 front brakes ($249) - absolutely worth every penny. The coolant hose, if you mean the upper or lower main radiator hose, is going to run $50-90 for the part, and $25 for a gallon of G12 coolant. If those are truly the only issues, then you're stealing the car at that price.

An avant for 1500. Very nice, very worth it if he's speaking the truth

Research common problems people have with these cars and compare them to whatever maintenance records the owner has. Price sounds awesome though.

There is a seal I guess next to the coolant resevor. Its got 167k miles, the interrior has the normal leather wear, no rips. It has been sitting for a year. The guy got a 2008 A4, he is selling his house, and needs the car out of the garage. So even with the repairs it needs (could use tires also, but they are above wear bars) its still a steal? I know it seems like a pretty good deal, but I just want to be carefull in purchasing a car that needs work (Never done it)

Too many people undervalue their cars. I remember Andrew149 selling his sedan last year with 233k miles and getting ~$3500 for it, with issues.

Even if there are more issues than he's telling you about, $1500 is a deal. The ones you listed are gonna cost you a couple hundred bucks total and a few hours of your time. That said, does he have any maintenance records? With 160k miles it should be on its second timing belt by now. If not thats not a HUGE deal, you're just going to want to do it first thing. I say go for it.

Do it. Even if you drop another grand into it if hidden problems arise 2500 would still be a great deal.

GO GO GO.
