2.7t or 4.2.
Thanks. The way it is going it will most likely still be for sale. If you could email me at passatcr@yahoo.com I can keep your email in my inbox and it will remind me to email you come late march or early April to let you know what is going on.
Thanks for the interest,

I think the comments above say it all. I'd add the 4.2 is not available with an MT6 while you can find some 2.7Ts with the manual tranny. I'm near Grand Rapids MI and there is a 2003 black on black 4.2 with 64k miles for $17k. I haven't seen too many 2.7Ts or 4.2s lately.

Your car is priced about right! The other guy will probably be sitting on his car for along time as his price is way out of line with the current market.
If you want to leave it stock, the 4.2 is the better engine, lower costs in the long run, V8 smoothness and music...but the 2.7 offers alot of things... fuel economy, lots of modding potential, a 6-speed if you can find it. You could sell that f-body and make a 2.7T just as fast... Just kidding man, but in all reallity, it is possible. The aftermarket for a 2.7T is as vast as it is for your LS1!

I believe timing belt is about $500 in parts to DIY, and around 1000 if you take it in.
People say the earlier 2.7Ts are less reliable, some of it I think is he higher miles and age, also there were a few parts that were upgraded on later models. But, most later ones dont have the milage, so whos to say. There are 2 facelift A6s on the zine with pre-mature turbo failure, one at ~45k and the other was at ~32k!! But also, there are a bunch well over 100k on stocks. In all honesty, I think its hit or miss. At work, we have 2 96 chevy 1500 Z71s, one is on like its 5th engine, the other is on the original. Both have been run to hell, and have well over 200k on them. Its just luck of the draw man.

I just had the toming belt/water pump and all accessories done on my 4.2 last week. It would have cost me $1,685, but my warranty picked-up $900 of that because my water pump was leaking and it was covered. That is one less thing I need to worry about.
DIY parts would have cost about $110 and change for the belts and acc. and the water pump costs $300 and change.
I hope that helps you. Other than that the 4.2 is a pretty reliable engine.
I think the 2.7's are less reliable because of the turbos.
