Default 2.7T Fluid Leak

So the other day as I came back from class I noticed that I had a clear fluid leaking from the underside of my car. It's clear and slightly oily. Its coming from my passenger side of my car. It's not by my wheels nor is it by my brake pedal which I have been told are problematic areas for a brake fluid leak. Can anyone tell me what this might be? Brake fluid, power steering...?

Default Fluid Leak

Hi to TheCollegeStudent,

The fluid you're describing is possibly gear oil leaking from your your transfer case. The Quattro A6 models all have this similar problem and its very common. If you're able to look under your car, you need to visiually inspect it for any wet areas on the underside of the drivetrain. If it is coming from the transfer case its most likely leaking from the rear seal. If so it wil be noticeably wet where the driveshaft exists from the rear of the transfer case. The seal itself is not very expensive, usually less than $20, but if you're not mechanically inclined, you will pay for several hours of labor to have it replaced. Good Luck with it!
