Default 2.7T Vs 4.2

I have a 2000 A6 4.2 with 70k and I'm looking to trade itfor a 2004 2.7T S 6 speed with also 70k. Although it is 4 years newer my question is what kind of problems will I face with the high mile 2.7turbo. The test drive of the 2.7T blew me away by the handling vs the 4.2.

I went the other direction, had a 2001 2.7T with about 70k miles and got a 2002 4.2 with about 30k miles. The 2.7T was definitely more "agile" and quicker of the line. However, I love the feel of the V8, smooth power band, and a great highway cruiser. Oh, and of course, those fender flares!

You'll enjoy the 2.7T...I would nto worry about the miles as much as the previous owner's care and maintanence of the car. If it looks like it has been well cared for (oil changed frequently, no accidents, etc. etc.) then no worries. Is it chipped already? If so, then maybe ask some more questions about if the car was tracked, etc.

Lastly, you are approaching the time to replace the timing belt, so make sure you are factoring that in as well. Good luck!

I am looking at a 2003 4.2 tomorrow with 77,000 miles. I am planning on the timing belt but are there any other things I should do at the same time?

It has the sport option so I am hopimg the handling will be closer to the 2.7 I have heard so much about.

They say the timing belt (chain) needs to be replaced at 104K so you should be fine. I just had my 70K maintenance and they found a leak in the oil pan which this car has 2 of. I was unaware of that before I had it fixed luckily under warranty. I decided that my 4.2 had enough power and didn't end up buying the 2.7T. Enjoy the 4.2 it's a cruiser.

Not to take over your post organize, but for the oil pan leak, was it leaking from the lower pan or upper? Im having a problem on my lower pan, although its miniscule. Did you notice that you were losing oil?

I never noticed anything in the driveway, they had to reseal the upper pan.
