Default 2000 A6 4.2

Hi Everyone,
This is my 1st post and my 1st Audi. I bought the car with the only known problem being the ABS Brake light flashing on the display and the caution light on. This comes on and stays on whenever the car is on. The brakes work fine but I sure would like to get it corrected. Anyone know anything that would help? Thanks
Adam

does your abs actually work when the lights blinking? if not, could possibly just be an abs sensor that went bad. i had an issue similar to this a while ago, but i think both my abs and traction control lights were both on, and it ended up being a loose/disconnected wire in the MAF sensor plug. for whatever crazy reason, those two lights are tied to the maf sensor, have no idea why. the car still ran perfectly fine when the wire/wires was/were disconnected, but it sounds like you might be experiencing the same thing, at least that's what i'm decifering as the "caution" light you speak of, because it sounds like the traction control light.

Do a search, if every light comes on thats related to the ABS/brake and beeps at the same time it means there is no communication with the abs control module. You need a VAG COM to check for communication with the ABS module, if it doesn't have any you need a new module, very common concern on the A6.

Seems like the brakes work fine and I'm not sure what the brakes would feel like if the abs didn't work. Is there a way to diagnose the problem without spending a ton of $?

easiest thing would be to do what auditech said, so if you can, find someone near you with a vag com and see if they'll let you borrow it for your car. that's how i initially tracked down my problem because a couple of the controller modules were throwing DTCs but it wasn't turning on a CEL or anything noticeable from the dash other than the traction control and abs lights. if anything, the stealership will have the appropriate tools to scan you car and see what the deal is.

BTW, if the abs isn't working, the brakes will just lock up under heavy braking instead of pulsating very quickly (you'll be able to feel it in the brake pedal and should also be able to tell just by the way the car stops).
