Default 2000 A6 Brake Pads

Hi guys, I have a 2000 A6 and the brake warning has been on for a couple of days now. I went to Napa to get the pads, thinking on changing it myself, and they told me theres 2 different kinds. If i remember correctly he said with or without 312mm rotors? Doesnt quite make sense coz how can the car not have rotors. Which one am I supposed to get? Mine is a 2000 A6 2.8 Quattro.

Heres another dumb question... i need four pads rite? 2 fronts 2 rears?

The car will have 312mm or 288mm rotors in the front, with 245mm rotors on the rear. And either a 4 pad system or an 8 pad system. I have a 2000 2.7 and I have 320mm and 255mm rotors and an 8 pad systems. You will have 4 pads on each rotor. The back rotors have 2 pads on each side. After a $985 quote from dealership, I ordered from this place and save a lot of money, got good parts and just did it myself .http://www.germanpartsonline.com/catalog.html

Cmoney is right! Figure out which rotors you have and get the pads from a good source. I like Force Five in Concord NH but there are many-

Check the rear pads - but normally the front wear out faster than the rear. The front is easy to change but the rear requires a bit more work because the pistions need to be turned as they are pushed in. There is a tool for doing it but a clever person can do it without the tool.

Do a search in this section and you'll see quite a few posts that will help you.

Only the frontpads have sensors.
Pull your wheel & see which caliper you have. Pad change is easy. You have a couple of thousand miles once you see the warning. Don't push it. Check your rears while your're at it. Don't buy cheap pads.
