2000 A6 fuel pump issue
#21
Jim is right - NEVER let the fuel level go below 1/4 tank. Remember, a fuel pump's main moving part is a constantly spinning electric armature. Once this gets too hot - imminent, sudden death is almost guaranteed...at the WORST possible time for you. Otherwise, keep the level above 1/2 and you can see the pump easily go to 200k, as long as the fuel filter is changed at least twice in it's lifetime.

Fuel Pump Issue
My 2000 A6 Was'nt getting any fuel so I found this forum. After reading this thread I tried leaving my Ignition switch on for about 2 minutes and my car started. I left it running, drove up and down the driveway. Turned it off and started it several times since. It seems to be fine now. I let my gas run down to empty a day prior to my car not starting and feared I had burned up the pump. Before you spend a lot of money on a tow and repair bill, you have to try this.

FUEL PUMP LOCAtion
i have a 2001 Audi A6 quattro with the 2.7T
I thought that the access port in my trunk was for my fuel pump but it turned out to be for my sending unit. Would the FP access port be under my back seats or would i have to drop my tank ?

OP Here
I was going through my other email account (rarely use it) and I saw an update. I see that there was a lot of discussion after 2010 .
Anyways, I bought a new fuel pump off of ebay (280$) and installed it my self. It is an easy job. Remember to Empty you fuel tank before changing it.
and yes the fuel pump was under the seat on the 2000 Audi A6, I am assuming it is the same in 2001 as well.
Here is the link I followed. Very detailed with steps and pictures.
