New here! I am looking at a 2000 A6 2.8 (not quattro). Owner has it for sale at $10,000. One catch....The speedometer cannot be verified. It was broken when he bought it. Car fax lists varying mileages from 42,000 to 83,000. It has approx. 75,000 miles on it based on his estimates. Based on what I have seen, I would think that is reasonable. So my question...If the car has no other mechanical issues, how much do you think this vehicle is worth without a clean record?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

 

That is extremely sketchy without an accurate odometer reading. I would personally pass on it. Who knows how many miles are on it. I wouldn't feel comfortable buying it. Do a Kelly Blue Book check and see what the ballpark value is.

 

KBB puts it at around $12,500. It seems like in my area used car prices are a bit higher than this. So is $2,500 discount enough because of the speedometer error. Probably not.....

 

I don't know man. I wouldn't do it just because of never knowing exactly how many miles you have or how much trouble you will have selling it to someone when your ready to sell. Do what you think though. It could always turn out being the best car you have ever owned. I would definately have a mechanic check it out though.

 

Yes, that would be one of the first things first. I think I will at least check it out. See how well it has been mantained, etc. and if it checks out then go see a mechanic. Thanks for the replies.
