Default 2000 audi a6 2.7T problem

I'm sorry if there are posts on here, I found a few but, they were un-related to my year :/

My car started having a flashing CEL for a couple weeks so I decided to take it into a local shop. After about a few hours of diagnostics(I had to wait for his phone call) he called me and told me all my coils except one are misfiring and he recommended changing all of the coils and spark plugs(along with some other things I think, he was talking a bit fast) so, with that being said, he gave me an estimate of $1629.97 to get it all fixed.

I don't mind paying it but, I've looked at other threads trying to see if the pricing is legit. I just don't want to front over that much cash if I don't have to.

Look forward to your replies!

Get a written quote with all things brokendown, then post here, so they can answer your questions.

Is there by chance I could get a quote of parts broken down from fellow users? He called me late so, I can't call him till tomorrow. Anyone that can give me standard pricing for the coils/spark plugs etc? I'd really appreciate that much at least so, tomorrow I have the ability to question his breakdown. =P

definitely get a breakdown of what work exactly the mechanic is thinking of doing.

ballpark pricing for set of six coil packs is $300

spark plugs vary by manufacturer but again $50 or less for a set of six

replacing coils packs and spark plugs is definitely a DIY project. If you know which end of a screwdriver is which and can turn a wrench you should have no problems. just be sure to do your research first so you can avoid the common pitfalls if you aren't too mechanically savvy.

good luck

02A6Beau, I appreciate the feedback. I'm going to call him in an hour once the shop opens for a complete break down of what what he wants to get done(I have my pad and pen ready). Good thing I asked on this forum first, I would have just swiped the card and never knew he potentially was trying to make extra cash fast.

input 'Audi Repair' in first box, then input your location.

There should be a bunch come up and you check on reviews or sort them with best review on top.

You can call/email them and check/compare their price.

DIY (C5, 2.7t) Spark plug swap that also include coilpack removal ...nothing difficult just use the money to buy the tools needed, also a good chance to know your engine

I should have replied this yesterday since I got the work done.

Total cost: 19xx.xx(yes, it was even more pricey! Ha)

Coils 1-6(5x.xx a piece) made him about 34x.xx
Spark plugs 1-6(50.00 a piece) made him about 300.00
Air filter: Unknown
Gas filter: Unknown
Power module: 250.00(from my local audi dealer)
He made me pay about $100 for inspection
I guess whatever else was labor?

Going to buy myself a vag-com rather this week, or next week. I plan to start doing a lot of DIY's so I can't get ripped :P

I just decided to pay him since, I needed my wheels.

He "made" you pay? I don't think so. Why don't you trade your car in on a Toyota?

For isolating the problem, it was a 100 dollars, YES, he did make me pay. No one works for free.

Why trade my car in for a Toyota? I never once bitched about paying.
