Default 2001 2.7 issues already!?!?!

ok well i just bought my 2001 2.7. 103,600 miles. bought of a woman, very clean car. next morning after i bought it the check engine light came on. brought it to read the codes and they read.... P1411, and also P1423 i believe. wondering what that was. also there is a messy looking oil leak under the car leaking all over the underside, not fast, but just enough to make a huge mess under the motor. i got it on a lift today and it looks to be the seals around the cam sprockets in the front on both cylinder banks? anyone ever experience this?? supposedly the lady said the water pump and timing belt were changed a little before 100,000 miles. which seems weird that this wasnt replaced at the same time? luckily i have some cash where i can get this taken care of. im just hoping i didnt get a fast one pulled on me. :-/

I'm at 118k and my cam seals are fine - no leaking oil. I had the TB, water pump, etc all replaced at 95k. So it's not necessary to do them at the same time as the TB.

Brought it off a woman and did not see the oil leaks, huh. What did she do, lean over to show you the engine and you didn't look at the motor?

haha well you can see the oil leak from the top. the only way you can see the huge mess is under the car you almost have to look from the back to see above the plastic skirt under the car. does anyone know what the codes mean? i believe they were P1411 and P1423 both said something like manufacturer control auxilary emmisions??

Hey, I don't know what to tell you about the leaks, just find out what's causing them and get them repaired. As for the check engine codes, P1411 means, "Secondary Air Injection System Bank 2 Flow too Low. The code P1423 means, "Secondary Air Injection System Bank 1 Flow too Low. There is mostly likely a leak coming from a hose coming from the pumps or the pump itself may be bad...Good Luck.

P.S. If you want to invest in a Bentley Manual for your car, It is filled with countless tips and maintenace and repair procedures. Well worth the money you save by doing minor maintenace and repairs yourself!! Oh, it will also give you definitions for the trouble codes associated with the "Check Engine Light".

Be preparred to have seal replacements going forward. I've got 155K on my 2.7T and it has leaked since about 65K. I've replaced seals and just about everything else. I always have the burning oil smell when I turn off the car. I call it "Audi Perfume".

Most people have covered the big issues with the 2.7T but IMHO there are a few things you will go broke trying to correct and may not be worth the money. 1) Turbo air intake pump. This has a double use (emissions and system efficiency). I've lost about 1-2 MPG since the check engine light went on. It's about $1400 to fix. I've swaped O2 sensors until I felt like I owned the company. 2) Rear brake rotors. Since they account for less than 20% of your stopping pwer, the odds that they are worn are very low. I swapped mine out at 120K and they looks fine. The rembo rotors I put on should last until 200K easy.

My next project is to retro fit some HIDs. The stock lights are horrible nd I've been putting this off far too long. With 155K, it's also time to chip the engine. Since the car's paid for, there's little risk going forward.

Best of Luck.

are you sure it's the front cam seals? we recently had an oil that made a mess everywhere, originally thought it was coming from the front of the engine, upper oil pan or cam seals. When they first put it on the lift, the shop thought it was the upper pan. Took it to a 2nd shop to have the work done and it turned out to be the rear main seal, $1800 later and it was fixed. Knock on wood, we have had our '01 since Oct. '04, this was the first major repairs it's needed. Had the TB service done at the same time.
