Default 2001 A6 2.7 Coolant temp gauge problem

I have a coolant temp gauge problem. When it was working fine it read in the middle of the gauge, but now it is reading on the cool side ( up only one slash). I replaced a temp sensor that is located behind the motor next to the firewall on the drivers side. But it still is reading on the cool side. Any help would be great. Thanks

Probably a stuck open thermostat.

Yes it will mess with you mileage. No, it is not a cake walk to replace the thermostat. Pretty much the same precedure as replacing the timing belt.

I am up and running again I was a little off on the sensors and switches. The temp sensor I changed on the drivers side of the motor is really the temp switch. The temp sensor is on the passenger side of the motor. It was the temp sensor that was bad. So I did not change the thermostat. But thanks for all the help everyone

these clusters have been known to have bad temp gauges which i thought was the problem at first then i thought it was the cts but it is probably the thermo
