Smile 2001 A6 Belly Pan

Hey guys,

I have read mixed thoughts on this issue. When I bought my 01 a6, the front bumper has been scrapped on the bottom, and the belly pan had ripped off at some point.

Some people tell me it needs to be replaced. others, say its useless.

I appreciate your opinions!

On my 3L the oil filter is down there fairly close to the road...having the belly pan does seem to keep it a little more protected...

Mine are both on and I live in Florida. I think I would be weiry of over heating with out them. It has vents in it that channel air into the engine and transmission. I would replace it. My A6 came messed up from a curb someone hit. I used some vinyl washers and screws to hold them together better. By the OEM clips on line not at the stealer like I did WOW do they like to charge for those.

Illus. shows a front and rear mine both are one piece just the part with the vents. I could be missing back half but that has no vents so...
Here it is;

Put it on!!

It directs air across the motor and helps keep things from bouncing up and hitting the motor.

I use the two front 1/2 turn fasteners and black tie wraps for the rest of them.

Remember -- If it should move and dosen't use WD-40
If it moves and shouldn't use duct tape.

there is a "front" and a "rear", are both suggestive? or is the front much more important than the rear

and it works like a charm.
(I remembered you said that some while back and I did the same thing on mine for the plastic ones - which are worthless)

LOL If you want to be real sexy use red tie wraps and add pink neon underbody lights!

Hahahahahahahaha.....then I shouldn't worry about painting anymore the front wheels; fill up the car with candy and I'll have a pinata on wheels.

Lot's of opinion on this but not a lot of facts. I doubt a whole lot of air gets directed from under the car. I doubt the thin plastic sheet will do much to protect the engine, although someone will come up with a story about a hose being cut without it. In reality, most German manufacturers mandate the shield because owners of these cars abhore oil drips on the driveway from their expensive European imports. I think you can find a replacement This link may no longer be good, but it once listed belly pans for $165:

I would put it on for one simple fact...my mother was driving mine one day and pulled to far over a parking curb. When she backed over the curb it hooked the front bumper (no belly pan). The front bumper ripped loose from the fender on one side, but the other didn't budge...it instead pulled the fender in about 6 inches at the bottom. Popped out both fog light grills, ripped loose the temp sensor...gonna need to replace the bumper soon
