2001 A6 Biturbo AC problem

The fans won't engage if the A/C is not working properly.
The A/C won't work if the fans are not engaged.
Slightly confusing, yes, but it's the truth.
Is your economy light on?
When was the last time the A/C was working? How long was it working for? Did it always blow COLD air, or did it start to become less cold over time? Perhaps a refrigerant recharge will do the trick.
If you don't have access to a VAG-tool then do it the old fashioned way - add some refrigerant. You may need to add several cans if it has all leaked out. If, after adding refrigerant, the A/C comes on then the good news is your compressor, condenser, and evaporator are all working, sort of (there is another unit above the passenger footwell that I can't remember). There could still be a leak in any of those parts, but hopefully it is just a hose or line. Making sure you added refrigerant with DYE in it, use a blacklight (pen type or small flashlight) to search for the leak.
That should get you in the right direction.
Let us know what you find.

Paul

Ok now getting check engine light, throwing code P0118 Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit High Input. As stated before my coolant gauge is not functioning, must be my coolant sensor correct? Will this affect the A/C though?
