RE: 2001 A6 Hazard Switch
I can walk you through it if you want, PM me ..
Simple repair, remove surrounding trim ( be careful ) small fasteners along top and lower edge tend to stick, but also come off easily. Pull hazard switch out, unplug - Plug in new switch, reinstall, reinstall trim... drive away..

Unfortunately pulling on the old hazard switch does not remove it. I've used a needle nose and so far I've managed to rip the edge off the switch but it will not come out. I've also done some searches trying to figure out how to remove the cup holder or change tray thinking if I come at it from the side, I'll be able to remove it. I've had not luck removing them and feel as though I am close to breaking something.
This replacement is being done on a 2001 A6.

i'm replacing my hazard switch today as well. it's as easy as safe4now said. just pull out switch with pliers and unplug. just make sure you have ahold of entire switch. there are parts within the switch that will pull out also. reinstall in reverse.

There are two ways to remove the switch. (1) Find a way to depress the tabs which hold it in place (you'll most likely need a second pair of hands), or (2) using needle-nose pliers: pull like hell. I used option 2, since I could never get the tabs pressed down enough to free it.

yea pulling the radio out is more work than this task requires.
this is a very quick job
Depress the tabs one at a time, once you do one, slide one side a little so it doesnt go back and go for the other one.

RE: 2001 A6 Hazard Switch
I found the best way to remove the hazard switch was to use a smallish flat screwdriver and insert it b/t the base of the switch and twist the screwdriver to force it out a few mm. After doint this several times on both sides alternating, the stay tabs will pull in and allow the switch to come out. I also tried needle nose pliers and essentially disassembled the switch trying to get it out.
