Default 2001 A6 Quattro Front rotor thickness

I statred changeing the brakes on my 2001 A6, 2.7T, I ordered all the rotors from Autozone. I asked for the 321mm front rotors (the size that was on the car), when I installed them it seems that they are too thick. Are there different thicknesses for the 321mm front rotor? Autozone only lists that particular rotor in that dia. I've called around and when I ask about thickness no one seems to have that spec in their parts listing. The rotor I took off appears to be about 47mm and the new one appears to be about 53mm.

Thanks,
Terry

I have had good luck with getting things from Autozone, but have to remind myself that most of the guys that work there are not automotive experts. They just hand out the parts!

As for the thichness of the rotors. I believe your talking about the depth of the offset - not the rotor thickness.

Default Rotor thickness

Actually, the rotor I removed was 47mm thick, the rotor from autozone was 53mm. It was enough where the inboard side of the rotor rubbed against the arm that supports the rotor. When I tigthened the wheel bolts all the way down the wheels would not move. I see from this site they sell different thicknesses-

LOL 47 mmm is 1.850 inches and 53 mm is 2.087 inches. I don't think your rorors are that thick!! You are talking about offset of the hub NOT thickness.

If you need 47 mm offsets get them -- All you need to do is get the right one's!

Ummm, I think he is measuring the TOTAL thickness, or, more accurately, width, of the rotor from outside of hat to inside of rotor surface. This measurement includes both the rotor thickness AND the offset. SO, both parties are right! And, NH_USA is right that the problem is the wrong offset. And, I wouldn't be too hard on the people at AutoZone as Audi brakes can be confusing. Take one of your old ones in for them to match up.

Get the part number from the old rotor and that way you can get the right one.
I have rotors for your car.
Let me know if you need help with finding the right ones.

If the rotor was lying flat it would be the height of the rotor...

If you were laying on you tummy in front of the vehicle you could say it was the width of the rotor.

And if you were looking at it from the side you could say it was the depth of the rotor.

But I have a thick skull so I don't know nuttin'

This response will help others
There are two different thickness's on the 2001 Quatro. 47 and 53mm overall thickness. I had same problem
Disc Brake Rotor; Front ; Vented 321x30mm; approx. 47mm Overall Thickness including Offset Hat
For models with oversized rotors and with standard ATE calipers (2 pads per rotor), rare usage with Girling calipers (4 pads per rotor.) Please verify rotor size and caliper type on car prior to ordering. 2 per car.

Zimmermann rotors may now have the Coat-Z anticorrosion coating, this coating should not need be removed prior to usage. 2 per car.Vented 321x30mm; approx. 53mm Overall Thickness including Offset Hat [/B]
