Default 2002 A6 2.7T Clutch Issue

I don't post much but need a little help. I was driving my 2002 A6 2.7t (95,300 miles) yesterday and went to shift from third gear to fourth gear and couldn't. Tried to shift back in to third or fifth and couldn't shift in to any geard. The clutch goes up and down like it is working properly I just can't shift the car in to gear. I was told by a local mechanic that there is a problem with the hydraulics and my slave cylinder. Does that sound right? I had a slave cylinder go out on me in my old Honda Accord and the clutch stuck to the floor and would not come back up. Also was told with 95,300 miles I should just replace the whole clutch. Labor will be 15 to 16 hours?? Any information is much appreciated.

Thanks

Did the mechanic actually look at the car? If so, he is probably correct. There should be no need to replace the clutch yet, if it was working fine before the release hydraulics went out.
