2003 A6 2.7T Automatic... its needs some zazz.... ideas?
So unfortunately, I am trying to cope with the fact that my a6 is an automatic. I am just not feeling it... The way it shifts, I just don't like. Tiptronic absolutely sucks, so I just forget about that. It seems like the shifts are so so so slow and the car doesnt have any kick.
I love my audi to death, don't get me wrong, I just dunno how I can make it a bit more fun to drive. I was thinking the tip chip, but even then, will then really help that much?
I like to be thrown back into my seat every now and then, and I just can't really get there w/ my 2.7t automatic right now.
Ideas?

So unfortunately, we have another newbie (not that there is anything wrong with it
) asking the same question asked on this board by another newbies, at least once a week. Scroll down, go to the next page and you will see three different threads asking the same information. You don't even have to enter the search string. If you don't find the information, then come back.
Btw, smart decision in going for 2.7T, sky is the limit if you want to do mods, I mean, performance related...not the underbody neon kits.

I check this forum daily, and haven't found anything pertaining to this specific issue. But just to be sure, I went and checked the last couple pages and still couldn't find anything.
I know the 2.7t is much better for aftermarket mods. I plan on doing a bit of modding. The problem right now I feel is directly related to the way the ECU handles shifting.
I could replace the turbos, ECU chip, do suspension, exhast, (all of which I plan on doing eventually, though probably wait on ko4s till my stock ones blow) etc. but its not going to change.... or drastically change, the general driving/shifting problem.
This is my first automatic. Its heavy, european, and ridiculously sexy. I have driven light little japanese sticks since I was 13. I had trouble choosing between my a6 or a WRX. Either would have been an automatic, (i had made a promise to my sister id get an automatic... long story), so I chose the Audi and I love it, but it just needs... something.

Hey, welcome to Audi and AudiForums.
The 2.7t is a great car with lots of potential. As for the shifting, the toptronic is indeed slow and has sometimes a mind of its own. In addition, it skips 1st gear unless you gun it right out of the gates. It does great on the hwy though and during normal driving. THis car was not meant to be a street racer and does not shift like one.
There are several things you can do
1- learn how to drive it and get the most of it. It takes practice, use the tip mode to get the most, downshift yourself.... practice brake launching with ESP off...
2- Reprogram it to 01032 with a VAGCOM, stock is 01002.
3- Get a GIAC Tip Chip, Some say it is great, others say it is not that great for the $. Doesn't really shift that much faster.
4- Most expensive but also very effective, especially if you'll go Stage 3. Get an upgraded TC from 2 bennett or l10 or 3zero3.... Also an add anew valvebody if you have $. YOU will definitely shift faster, handle more power while maitaining reliability, and get a higher stall speed.
Hope this helps and is what you were looking for.

Yea, I noticed that about hte first gear in tiptronic. Its basically not there. Its automatically shifts once it hits like 3-4krpm. As for practicing break launching, I'm probably gunna pass on that. It's rather unhealthy for several parts of the car, if I'm not mistaken.(though I might be mistaken... lol)I will probably reprogram it to 01032, and if that doesn't help, I might try the tip chip. I doubt I'll go stage 3. I plan on modding my 2.7t, but I'm going to wait to save the super extensive modding for my next car, which will probably be an STi.
I was also thinking about 00032. I hear it holds first gear a bit longer, and that the shifting is a bit less delayed. Any experiences?

Like a lot of Audis and some Porsches, AUDI programs the tranny to skip first gear under normal load, regular driving.
As for brake launching, yes it is not super healthy and not to be done daily... but I just suggested it b/c many who complain about the TIPtronic also complains about its weak launch #s... Not sure what you were looking for.
00032 and 01032 will give you the same results exactly...
If your car's stock code is 01002, the switch to 01032, if stock code is 00002, then switch to 00032... Just change the # before the last.
STI isn't bad although the new one seems a little bland compared to the last version, though more civilized. Great car to own, if I was younger and/or without a family I would not mind owning one or an EVO or R32... though I'd rather have a M3 or S4... just so darn $$$.
But for me, my wallet and lifestyle, the A6 2.7 works better at this point in my life... and with stage 3 in the future hopefully, there isn't much to fear no the road
Even now, I must admit the car performs well and I rarely need more power.... more of an addiction and want

I would DIE for an r32 =]
Evos are amazing too, except after driving a couple Evo9 Mrs and STis, I liked the way I could feel the road more with the STi.
But I'd rather have a skyline than either.

R32 is also the VW...gt-r R34's kick @$$ over its previous bretheren tho. Good choice on the A6 tho. I can see why we get AT cars since they are primarily comfortable luxury cars whereas wrx's are just sporty and I don't get the point of buying an AT. Senseless. I see what you mean that the A6 AT don't have much of a kick in the start but remember its a mammoth for a mid-size car. But the 2.7 drivetrain itself is FAST in highway...which is its specialty. Your gears are longer than most cars therefor you have a better top speed car. The tip code will help but if you want an AT car to kick ur @$$ back into your trunk its not gonna happen. Get an APR/GIAC chip. I know plenty of jap owners of sti's, 240's, and evo owners with heavy mods who admit they'd rather have my slower accelarating car over theirs since its more comfortable and overall sharper. Audi's excellence is undeniable
