Default 2004 A6 Wiper Missing Spots

Hi,

I have tried searching Google for a response to this problem. However, anytime I type the word 'wiper', I only receive results that have to do with wiper replacement sales.

Anyways, I hope I can get some assistance/guidance here. Basically, the passenger side windshield wiper on my car is ALWAYS missing the same spot, directly in the middle of the windshield. This isn't a big deal during the summer months, but more so during the winter. I've purchased new blades, but I still have the same problem. I am not having any issues with the driver side blade, only the passenger side. It's extremely annoying!!!

I am wondering if anyone else has an issue like this, or could possibly provide some insight. I am not sure if my windshield itself is messed up in someway, or maybe my wiper arm is doing something weird... I honestly have no idea, but like I said, it's very annoying.

Any help that you guys can provide would be extremely beneficial. Thank you in advance!

Try the wiper arm spring.

If you you take your car to the car wash regularly you may have a wax buildup on that portion of the windshield. Try scraping that area with a razor blade very carefully and see if that makes a difference.

I used to have that problem on my 89 Audi 200 quattro turbo at speeds over 110 mph....Just kidding....

It was when I went over 125 mph I fixed it by buying blades with little airfoils to keep the wiper on the windshield.

As for your problem --- I would try a little WD-40 or silicon oil and manipulation of all the flexable parts of the wiper assembly. Then I'd look at the wiper arm spring as sugested.

I have the same issue on the driver's side. The root cause is the bar on the end of the wiper arm that the wiper blade attaches to corrodes and stops swivelling. Lift up your wiper blade and try to rock it back and forth. It should move easily. In your case, it won't. The short term fix is some penetrating oil and working the blade back and forth to loosen it up. The long term fix is a new wiper arm.

I was perplexed by your problem and brought it up to my staff during a meeting late yesterday. At the time we were discussing a potential downsizing problem. Two of my PHDs started discussing reasons for the blades missing spots on the windshield and I had to stop them because we were running out of time.

This morning, when I got to work, the two rushed into my office looking scruffy and haggard like they had worked all night. They then presented me with a 35 page report outlining the problem, with possible causes and a firm recommendation.

It said that the wiper blade missed the area of the windshield because it was depressed and the rubber blade did not contact the surface. Thy went on to say that best way to fix the problem was to smear clear silicon window sealer on the surface and activate the blades to obtain a smooth surface. This would fill in the depression and any other imperfections in the surface that may have been caused by rocks etc. The residue at the end of the strokes should be removed before the sealer cures.

It was a brilliant idea brought forth by some of the best minds in the country and reinforced the fact that PHD really stands for “Pile it Higher and Deeper”. This helped me make the downsizing decision -- It will be them.

Lol NH, good story. I guess thats the same as that silicon coating that the PIAA wiper blades comes with.
