Default 2005 A6 tires

Looking at a low mileage 2005 A6 . Have been told that there is only one kind of tire for this car and is only available at the dealerships. This sounds like total BS. Also heard hay don't last long. All you A6 owners, let me have the real story.
Thanks in advance.

I bet a dealer told you that. Go to the Tire Rack website, they will have a large selection.

Not true. I run oem Pirellis in the winter and Continentals in the summer. Both run and wear reasonably well (given this is a heavy vehicle with AWD). I did have terrible experience with Coopers and traded them back in (at Discount Tire) for the Contis. I know some owners who run Blizzacks for the winter, too.
