Question 2006 A6 Headlight Removal

Hi, Does anybody know how the headlights are removed from a 2006 A6 as the original xenon bulbs are a bit dim only (4300k) and would like to know if i can change them for 6000k or even 8000k.

4300K HID bulbs are 40% brighter than 8000K HID bulb. The higher K you go, the less light it will put out.

Well it's not linear up or down. The output peaks around 4300K (that's why they make them at this temperature!) because the light contains a mixture of all the colors evenly (near pure-white). When you increase or decrease the tint of the output (that's what the number refers to - technically it refers to the temperature of the bulb's filament, but w/e), this will decrease the overall brightness of your bulb because it doesn't contain as much light as it could.

A high-temperature bulb (the color) which is blue won't contain as much yellow, so you lose that overall light output.

Now another thing that you really have to know and realize is that our eyes see MUCH better in yellow light than they do in blue light (that's why normal headlights aren't blue, duh). It's a lot easier to see at night when you have a lower temperature bulb (yellow) so you should really stay away from blue headlights. That's the main reason that I can't stand seeing all the ricers with the blue headlights, it's just stupid.

Here's a nice picture of bulb temperatures/tints:

Here is a graph of the overall light output at specific temperatures. Notice how the output is greatest at ~4200K which I have already said.

More graphs

what you could do instead of buying different bulbs is just buy a set off 50 or 55 watt balasts, example call DDMtuning 858.565.1742 and order yourself a set of 55 watt balats and D2s adapters, just the balasts and the D2s adapters is all you'll need, and then plug those into your existing wiring harness and bulbs and your output will be doubled no lie, HIDplanet.com/forums is where you can find all the details and info about better light output, this is what me and a couple of friends have done and the output is doubled with the the same bulbs and just upgrading to 55 watt balasts.
