Default 2006 A6 Navigation Upgrade disc question

Hey gang,
I found some things on this site that warns about upgrading our MMI with newer version navigation disc. I figured I could just ask everyone directly. I have a 2006 A6 and nothing has ever been changed on it. It's pretty much unchanged. perhaps the software may have been updated by the dealer during the maintenance work but I'm not sure.

My question is, if I bought a 2008, 2009 or 2010 version DVD navigation would it work with my car without blowing something up and costing me beaucoup bucks to take it into the dealer and have them mock me for being dumb? thanks in advance.

Hello, van...As far as I know, all of the nav software is supplied through Navteq(http://www.navigation.com). I don't think any Audi dealership has the capability to update nav software. The Navteq website lists 'Version 10'(# U0023-0070-906) for all 2005&up A6s as the latest version. What version nav disc do you have?

Version 10 is the most recent version. It is available at either Navteq or through Audi dealers.

A month ago I was driven in the service shuttle - Q7 - 2 months old, latest navigation, etc.
The driver explained that Navteq gets maps info from the City authorities.
The maps(latest) were 2 years old - even the dealership was not on the map...
I'm happy I never opted for navigation, using my GPS is quite convenient, for the fraction $$$.

hey uberteile,
i currently have version 5 (i believe that is for 2006 models) DVD. I would like to jump to the latest version if possible. i just am starting to get frustrated with Audi's navigation because i kind of find it to be missing a lot of new streets and even some old ones. also i think it's not as good as having a garmin or a tomtom with the way it navigates you. that's why i really would like to update this thing! =)
