Default 2006 Audi A6 engine oil

Hello fellow members. New here as I just picked up a used 2006 Audi A6 3.2L. Absolutely love this car! I'm interested in the best oil for the car. I have read a number of posts just from a Google search. I know that obviously I can go with a VW 502 approved oil SAE 5w40, but have read some things regarding the direct injection effecting oil quality. Was wondering if there have been some more recent suggestions regarding what the best oil to use is, something that better deals with fuel dilution that I have heard comments on for the DI engines. More importantly, my low oil light comes on every once in a while. If I check it after running it, letting it sit for 5-10 min, it show more toward min. line. If I let it sit overnight, it shows almost at max. line. The car is telling me add oil, but 1) not sure how much to add if I should at all 2) what oil I should start using for regular changes that has the most recent supporting data 3) is the fluctuation normal 4) do I have a engine oil sensor malfunctioning. I want to add a little bit of oil to see if the engine oil light disappears, but am really interested in the best oil to use to keep this car lasting to 150K miles like I plan to use it for. It has 90K miles now. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Edit: I should add that the PO last changed the oil at 87,669 at an Audi dealer on 2/27/12, with now 90,311.

The only problem I know with DI engines is carbon buildup. Is the oil light the low oil level or low oil pressure light?

Top off any Audi approved oil. All the Audi approved oils are chosen because they are the best for our engines. I use m1 0-40.

Also the car will burn oil so you should check it every 2 weeks or 500 miles. If your car went to min. After 3000 miles that's not to bad. Just make sure it doesn't go below the min.
