2009 A4 Cabrio B7 - constant beeping - SOLVED
Hello everyone,
This is my first post here so if I have misunderstood any rules then please accept my apologies and let me know.
I have a 2009 A4 which was constantly beeping whilst driving. It was doing my head in. Finally managed to sort it with an easy fix after picking up clues from this and other forums, so I thought I'd document it here in case anyone has the same issue.
- Battery was reconnected after I'd disconnected it for nine months
- Car started first time. Jackpot! Lazy me didn't bother to charge it further, just went for an hour's drive.
- Two days later, car started beeping. This would continue for thirty seconds or so, pause a few seconds, then start again. This would repeat for about three minutes, pause for a minute (you think it's finished) then - annoyingly - start again
The beeping was not the alarm, because the hazards weren't flashing.
A little sniffing around gave the clue that it's a warning that the alarm system's backup rechargeable batteries are low on charge or not storing charge.
I plugged the car into a mains powered charger and left it for a few hours until the charger LED turned green.
Problem solved! Beeping stopped. Perhaps my backup batteries are on their last legs but this easy fix lets me procrastinate until it happens again. And next time after disconnecting the battery for a long time I'll do the honourable thing and charge it properly.
I hope this is of value to someone, like I said, it was doing my head in. I think the constant beeping is a design flaw - it should be at least possible to click something to acknowledge you're aware of the problem, but hey ho.
