Hey folks,

I bought a used A6 3.0T a few months back and I'm going through 1 Qrt of Castrol 5W-40 every 1500 - 2000 miles. Brought it in to the local dealership and they said it was normal with these engines... ?? Smoke is coming out of the tail pipes and my garage wreaks of burning fluid/oil. Nothing dripping out on to the floor. Is this normal or is this thing at risk of piston/ring replacement?

oil coming from the tail pipe is far from normal. Chances are you have a leaking valve cover gasket that is leaking into the spark wells.

pull your plugs out and see if any are covered in oil. if they are you will need to replace the valve gasket. not a terribly expensive job. or you could do on your own if you are mechanically inclined. usually a 5/10 job for hardness
